Many factors lead to this decision, and now it is time for the next adventure in my life. I'd like to thank all of the remarkable friends & customers of CRC-many who've become friends- for your generous support & encouragement throughout the past 5 years. Rest assured that Cars-R-Coffins as a brand is not going anywhere, and will continue to support the local cycling scene. I also encourage all of you to continue to "support your local independent anything" & especially all of our friends on 34th & Lyndale. I'll see you on two wheels.

the time has come to place your order for the new 2011 CRC cycling kit. Once again, we have collaborated with local powerhouse, Twin Six, to bring you a classic design to help you look good on the bike, whether suffering through a gravel grinder century, or turning the screws on your nemesis at the 24 hour race. This year we are offering jerseys and bibs, in both men's and women's sizes. The cut falls in between race cut and club cut. Sizing chart is available here. If you're unsure, I'd suggest ordering up. Or put down that cake and ride a few more miles...

The jersey design is largely unchanged from last season, although the blue has been brightened up, and the black will be blacker; there is none more black. Jerseys are FULL ZIP, and will be in stock in roughly 3 weeks. Bibs are about 8-10 weeks out. As you can see below, you may order each piece separately, or together as a kit. Please be certain to select your proper size from the drop-down windows. Shipping will be via USPS Priority Mail.

'Tis the season of giving, and we'd like you to help us give hundreds of free bikes to kids this holiday season.

Come on down to the Midtown Bike Center anytime we’re open and fix up some bikes to give to kids in your community. We need to kick out about 200 more bikes by December 10th in order to meet our goal of 350 bikes to give away.

Our mission is to give a bike to every kid who needs one. Every kid needs a bike!

Hours: (anytime the Midtown Bike Center is open!)

MON-FRI 6:30 AM - 7:00 PM

SATURDAY 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM

SUNDAY 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM

*Volunteer days run through Friday, December 10th*

Location:  The Freewheel Midtown Bike Center 2834 10th Avenue South Minneapolis. Get Directions

We need three categories of staff:

1. Wrenches - someone who knows their way around fixing a bike. Brakes, chains, gears, shifters, and the likes.

2. Assistant Wrenches - check and replace tires and tubes, check pressures, final cleaning of bikes, etc.

3. Hands - wash bikes with power washer, move them from place to place, minor support (Please Bring Towels).

Groups:  If you have a large group of co-workers, friends, neighbors or strangers that can come assist, please contact Jake Quarstad at jquarstad@niceridemn.org.

The Minnesota State CX race was this weekend. My bum foot prevented me from racing. It snowed. A lot.

Went to the sweet, new Kickstand Press opening party. Hondo played, and there were some rad prints on display.

I've had my Mission Workshop Vandal backpack for over a year now, and it's still cold clockin' for mega-dollars. Later, after this photo was taken, I would nearly break my foot!

2 weeks ago I hauled a Costco load on my Big Dummy in a rain storm. The looks I got in that place were hilarious. I felt downright un-American next to all the big trucks, and big Americans....

This event is meant to celebrate the death of the Homie and the birth of the Foamy. The Foamy is a offroad singlespeed rally in the woods. Be prepared to ride or don’t show up. You have been warned.

Just about an hour ago a guy calls me up saying he's watching some young delinquent riding my bike in DT st. paul, about a mile from where i work. I grab two of my coworkers and we tear down there, still on the phone with the dude who spotted it. We jump out of the car, run around the corner, and sure as shit, there it is, surrounded by 5 kids who look to be in about the 9th grade. I tore it out from underneath one of them, gave them a few kind words, and rode off. they didn't put up any fight. its a little beat up, but still 99% there.

Check out this vintage Gary Fisher, and do note the brake lever placement + u-brake. Very crunk. Saturday night saw the inaugural running of Kelly Bollox' CRUNK CROSS. Sort of a pseudo urban cross race/alley cat, CCX started us up a bombed out railroad corridor, with sand, mud, tracks, broken glass and concrete. Once to the Camden boat launch, it was a Northside assault on such fine establishments as the T-Shoppe, Tootie's, Halek's, with on stop at Kelly's crib before running back to One On One and the finish line.

I "won" the event by being first across the line, but Bobby here won the "drunk" class, and was rewarded a bottle of Crazy Stallion for his efforts.

Sunday we moved on to the Wirth CX Cup for some real racing action. Bare-Ass Beach stair run up was brutal. So was the bonfire crowd, waving flags, handing out one dollar bill$, and general tomfoolery.

Cross That Off The List...

Saturday I went to the Hudson CX Race w/Mac, & The Hendersons. Good times were had by all, and there are pictures to prove it...

The course was a mix of some tech dirt, sandy power sections, sandy running sections, and a water crossing.

The Goodrich Team looked good; Scott E. Rob had some tubular issues.

EZ E. Taylor took commanding lines thru all the slop and looked strong like ox!

The peanut gallery tried to offer me a beer just past the h2o crossing, but having just been ~~passed~~ lapped by eventual race winner, Paul McKinney, I tried to hang on his wheel for a lap. Didn't happen... I had a good time, though, and am stoked for more racing this weekend. CCMPLS will prove to be an interesting affair, while Sunday, the Wirth Classic Cup bring cx back to the city limits.

A few weeks back I flew to PDX to take part in the Rapha Gentlemens' Race. This was 6-person team event, featuring 23 teams racing from the coastal burgh of Otis, OR, all the way back to the Rontom Bar 138 miles away in Portland. Team CRC, (shown here in front of the Git-R-Dun Racing truck, which was discovered near a yard sale right outside of BEAVER, OR, -we "got lei'd in Beaver.") was once again victorious in the K.O.F. category (Kings Of Fun). No other team that we know of stopped at a winery in the beautiful wine-region town of Carlton.

This weekend, why don't you get on up to the Ghandi Dancer Family Bicycle Ride For Peace, Sunday, 4 October. Utilizing the Gandy Dancer Trail & surrounding roads, there will be 10, 28, 45, or 100 mile options. Do it.

Here is a picture of the "winner" of Brauer Power's PIG'S EYE PUNISHER Ride, from Sunday, 17 May, 2009...

After this happened, I woke Sunday morning looking for a little recovery ride. What I received instead, (big shock) was a relentless hill-climb extravaganza, organized by the Brauer Power Hardman Corporation, whose leader can be seen below:

After some brief preliminaries at the Muddy Pig Tavern (read: hydration), we rolled out 7 strong for a roughly 50-mile "tour" of some of St. Paul's hilliest burghs and bluffs. I attempted an "acceleration" on the day's first climb, up to Mounds Park, and was immediately relegated to the pain cave. Brauer Senior and his henchman, Gene O. (no, not that Gene O....) were waiting for us. After that, a truly remarkable day awaited us, as we valiantly fought for second place all day behind Trevor.

The halfway point was marked by a stop at Jersey's Bar in Inver Grove Heights. Pitchers, nachos, (w)awful fries, and cheese curds were consumed for the second push. Some of these hells, I mean hills, I have ridden before. Most, I have not. But I hope to again. Thanks BP one and two, and Gene for making this happen.

Rodney Scroggins Benefit

I recently received a call from a man named Mark who is the GM over at D’Amico Catering in Minneapolis. He used to work at the Edina D’Amico and over the years, delivered 100’s of boxed lunches to QBP. On September 17th, 2008, Rodney Scroggins, (who has worked for them for 19 years and has always biked to and from work), was hit by a car (hit and run) and found lying in the road about an hour later, then brought to HCMC. He is still in the hospital and recovering from a dislocated shoulder, broken bones and other injuries.

Coworkers have organized a benefit to help with his recovery. All the proceeds will benefit his family.

Renaissance Bicycles

There is a shop in North Carolina, Renaissance Bicycles, who take older, vintage frames, add modern components, and create worthy masterpieces. To some degree, this is what we do at the CRC Cykel Garage. We don't repaint/refinish frames, but we create unique, one-of-a-kind rides from sweet steel road bikes. In the que at the moment we have a very nice Panasonic DX6000. I've gone back and forth on whether or not I want to turn it into a single speed, but at this point I'm leaning toward returning the SunTour Sprint kit to it. Pictures will be posted as the project is completed.

Ghost Bike Memorial Ride to Honor Fallen Bicyclists

Minneapolis / St.Paul-October 2008 - This Saturday, the bicycle community will come together to honor the memory of cyclists who have been killed in recent accidents on Twin Cities streets. A memorial ride will visit the sites of three of the most recent crashes, where "Ghost Bikes" have been placed as a memorial to the victims. Family, friends and cyclists are invited to participate in this group ride. Organizers are asking that participating cyclists please wear a black shirt with orange ribbon around their arm or handlebars. Ribbon will be provided for those who need it.

In the afternoon, another ride will head to Blaine in order to place a Ghost Bike at Central and Cloverleaf, where cyclist Dale Aanenson was killed.

"Friday night,9/19/08, my beloved Xtracyle (a wedding gift from my wife) was stolen right from our locked porch. I got out there moments after the d-bag split. I have put up posters around the neighborhood and am hoping to hear something back from them. This bike is a huge part of our families gettin'-around-ability. Good on MATT DUFFIN for finding Hendrix' bike not two blocks from where it was stolen. The bike has been returned, but will need some work as the young punks who gaffled it seemed to have joyrode the hell out of it. Meanwhile, 4130 frontman J. Brandt has had his black Spectre 29'er stolen. No details yet, but this shit is getting to be epidemic proportions... Lock that shit up, people!

I'm getting tired of hearing about this crap. Here's a young man, with a brain injury, who's still independent enough to ride around his neighborhood on a 3-wheeler. Some parasite thinks it's ok to steal it. If you see this bike, call the cops, let us know, and beat the perp with a baseball bat...

From the owner's Mother:here is a front view of the 3-wheeler that Hendrix used to ride all the time. It sits up higher than the chopper one that we have that needs repairs and was much more comfortable for his size. It was stolen from the stop sign on 34th and Pleasant Ave So. (Minneapolis) The bike is red, made by RETRIKE, has a small black pouch on the back seat and two plastic tubs were recently bolted to the back for carrying stuff. There is a hand brake on the left side and I believe it has 5 gears.

Someone busted into my garage this morning. Now my main mode of transportation has been lifted, what a drag!

It's hard to miss, custom drop bars that flare out at the bottom (sort of a mix of mustache and drop) in YELLOW tape. YELLOW fenders, black rear rack, single speed, RED frame.

It's registered with the police and I have the original purchase paperwork.

I love this bike, I've taken cross country, had it for years, and tweaked to fun commuting beauty. I'm offering a $100 reward for a safe return.
